While scrolling through Pinterest, I came across a quote by Xan Oku: "May the flowers remind us why the rain was so necessary."
Seeing the words "flowers" and "rain reminded me of a floral picture I took.
I combined the two to create this poster.
Design Rationale
This was created in Illustrator.
The first image is my photograph in Queen Mary's Rose Garden in London. I saw the black flower looked out of place next to the bushel of white flowers it was beside, and snapped this picture with my mirrorless camera.
After stumbling across the quote, I remembered this picture and felt inspired to create something with it.
The white mask over the image has cut-out shapes of a fully blossomed flower over the black flower, while the white flower has wilting and falling petals. The falling petals mimic the rain that the quote talks about.
I used a halftone effect on the typography to give it a printed feel. I also chose serif and script fonts. The script fonts emphasized the parts of the quote that related to the background image.
